As a child, I vowed to always maintain my curiosity, which I have spent my life applying toward understanding all the stuff from which humans are made—from brain tissues to the stories we tell ourselves and each other. I apply my systemic thinking to subjects as diverse as programming my exercise routine to optimizing the performance of my hand-picked stocks. This applies to my work as an integrative, mind-body psychotherapist. First, I use my heart to intuit what’s going on with you. Then, I gently make observations about what I believe are the patterns governing your life. When you uncover those patterns, you gain greater choice over how you act—and experience a greater sense of control over your life.
At home, I love lying on the carpet in a dim room and listening to Chopin (or Metallica). In my spare time, you might find me jogging down the street with Nike Global Head Coach Chris Bennett in my ears. Once a year, I take a ten-day intensive meditation retreat. These have changed me in the best way possible.
Hi, I’m Shon.
Our office at 763 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, Massachusetts. It’s right inside the Orange Door Collaborative, Suite 7, where there are a few other wellness practitioners, sound baths, and yoga.
My Journey
I was born with a clubfoot, a disability that has affected my physical abilities and emotional life from day one. As an infant, I underwent a long and complex surgery to address that. It took me nearly the first two years of my life to recover from it. I believe this is at the basis of my compassion toward human beings. From an angry and insecure kid who couldn’t balance on his left foot for a moment, grabbing onto a table to wear pants, to a recreational hybrid-athlete with diverse fitness goals (the Boston half marathon is my next target), I’ve learned that we all have the capacity for change.
Sometimes, the hardest part is finding someone who can actually help you answer the very real questions that life presents us with: Who am I? Why am I in pain? What does it mean to be?
Every day I am honored and inspired by the privilege of serving my clients and helping facilitate their process of change through dialogue. I believe that when we develop self awareness through therapy, we make the world a better place, one conversation at a time.
Experience
-
In 2016, I enrolled in Medical School in Prague with the intention of becoming a psychiatrist. While I eventually dropped out after two years, I spent my time connecting with patients in the hospital on an emotional level and empathized with their pain. I also served Holocaust survivors in a hospice center where I took their vitals—and listened to their stories.
-
I then moved from Europe to the U.S. with the intention of becoming an English teacher after having discovered my love for poetry and prose. I enrolled at New York University, where I majored in English Education and minored in Creative Writing while training in NYC public and private schools.
-
After graduation, I worked as a Middle School Humanities teacher in a private Montessori School. I quickly learned that my passion was not to design, implement, and evaluate a complex curriculum—but to connect with my students as human beings, one on one.
-
After having been disillusioned in the education system, and having conversations with therapist friends of all kind, I decided to formally fulfill what became clear to me was my mission, which is this: To help people become the best versions of themselves, inside and out. During my Master’s program at the Ohio State University, I worked in human service organizations serving people entangled with the legal system due to domestic abuse. I also trained in providing evidence-based psychotherapeutic care as a clinical intern in a large group practice in Brookline.
Because I’ve transformed my life and my being from the ground up—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—I know that change is possible. In fact, change is the only certainty of life. I would be privileged to support you with your process of change, too.
